The official Silver Collection of the "European Football Championship 1996" issued by the Royal Mint.

The European Football Championship 1996 took place in England, the home of football, where the rules of the game meanwhile being played world-wide were established in the 19th century. On this occasion, the British Royal Mint is issued a unique, strictly limited collection of silver medals. Along with historic motifs, such as the first floodlit match in Sheffield in the 1878, the collection also includes the European Champions, the places where the matches are held and famous English footballers. Among these is the possibly most famous English player, "Sir Bobby Charlton" who coined the phrase: "A very simple sport, which is only made difficult by football players".
