In 1988, the finals of European Football Championship took place in Germany for the first time. The games were played in Dusseldorf, Hanover, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Cologne, Gelsen-kirchen and Munich. The final took place in Munich on June 25, 1988 in front of 72,000 spectators. Rinus Michels Oranje Team won 2:0. The players of the tournament, the exceptional Dutch playes Ruud Gullit and Marco van Basten . The Dutch were European Champions for the first time.
