Born on 5th April 1922, in Preston, Lancashire, Tom Finney was to become one of soccer's true greats. One New Years Year's Day 1940, the young Finney signed for his only Club -- Preston North End __ on a salary of just 10 shilling a week. Among other achievements, Finney helped steer the club to the league and cup double and England honours soon followed. In his international career, Finney made a total of seventy-six appearances for his country, scoring thirty goals - the only man to wear three different numbers in an England forward line.
