Eight teams qualified for the final stages of the 1984 European Championship in France: alongside the hosts, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Yugoslavia, Rumania, Portugal and Germany. The hosts and Spain played the final in the French capital of Paris on June 27, 1984. The star of this final and the whole tournament was the outstanding French captain, Michel Platini. He scored 9 of his country's 14 goals. He scored thee first goal in the final in front of 47,000 spectators.
