To celebrate the First Anniversary of independence, Vanuatu issued the First National Coinage Collection to form part of the 'Symbols of Nations' series of coins.
The common obverse features the National Emblem which depicts a Chief standing on a island holding a spear. Behind the Chief is a pig's tusk which forms part of the country's flag, and is regarded as a symbol of wealth.
The Reverse features designs of Vanuatu's symbolised in its country's natural habitat, designs were created by A.W. Airs.
