Today officially known as the Republic of Malawi was formerly known as Nyasa-land and was part of the Colony of Rhodesia (1953-1963)
From 1964,when the first coins were issued, till 1968 the currency was the English system of 12 pennies to a shilling and 20 shilling to the pound.

Obverse: of each coin features the Portrait of Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

6 Pence: Rooster Standing Right.
Shilling: Bundle of Corn with date & Value.
Florin: Elephant and Calf.
Half Crown: Malawian Coat of Arms with value below.
