The kingdom of Bhutan, Druk yul (Land of the Dragon), became a member of the United Nations on 21 September 1971 and joins in the 50th Anniversary celebrations with this 50 Ngultrum coin. Its commemorative reverse, created by Avril Vaughan bears an impressive portrait of the UN's second Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold.
