This coin is certified to be 99.99% fine silver with a weight of 31.39 grams. Designed by Canadian artist Gary Corcoran, the coin depicts an aerial view of Niagara Falls using holographic technology.The obverse features the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Dora de Pedery-Hunt.
Niagara Falls formed 12,000 years ago when glaciers retreated north, the Falls were originally 11 km downstream from where they are now. Today, hydroelectric plants that divert much of the water slow the rate of erosion. Still, Niagara Falls continues to retreat about 36 cm (1 ft) every ten years.
