The commemorative silver dollar marks the 25th anniversary of the last dog team patrol of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, which took place from March !! to April 5, 1969, from Old Crow, Yukon, to Fort McPherson, Northwest Territories, and back. The patrol, led by Constable Warren Townsend and Special Constable Peter Benjamin covered 804.5 kilometres on sleds pulled by 21 purebred Siberian huskies. The design on the reverse of the coin, by Canadian artist Ian D. Sparkes, portrays a dog team led by a RCMP officer in the Canadian North.
