The Queen Mother was born at the close of the great Victorian era and fittingly a portrait of Queen Victoria graces the reverse of the 50 Vatu coin. Modelled by Royal Mint engraver Robert Elderton, the famous Queen is shown in mourning attire which she adopted following the death of the Prince Consort in 1861. The obverse features the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Vanuatu.
