Exchange Rate: One Dollar Bahamas = One Dollar U.S. Each coin in this Proof Set of the 1969 coinage of the Bahamas bears the national coat of arms. Rich in the history and beauty of the Bahamas, the heraldic design depicts Columbus' flagship, the Santa Maria. Above the ships a resplendent rising sun evokes both the warmth of the islands and the country's bright future. A blue marlin and a flamingo, the national bird, flank the shield. A ribbon bears the national motto - FORWARD, UPWARDS, ONWARD, TOGETHER. The Five-Dollar large 45mm 1.2536 ounce Sterling Silver coin portrays Shield with crown at top, sailing ships below, banner below shield, garland above, date at right. The Two-Dollar 0.8862 ounce Sterling Silver Coin at 40mm depicts the National bird, two flamingos. The One Dollar 0.4666 oz. 0.800 Fine Silver 34mm. depicts a conch shell. The 50 Cent 0.2667 oz. 0.800 Fine Silver 29mm. depicts a leaping blue marlin. A native fishing boat under full sail appears on the twenty-five-cent piece in pure Nickel. The five-cent coin bears a pineapple design, and the one-cent piece portrays a starfish, in Cupro-Nickel. Unusual interest is added by the square-shape of the fifteen-cent piece, bearing a lovely hibiscus bloom, and the scalloped-edged ten-cent piece, portraying two bone fish.
