PLEASE NOTE: collector paid over £100 for this coin unfortunately it has been badly mishandled thus graded down, a pity it’s a beautiful coin and box. 2009 St George and the Dragon, Tristan Da Cunha Five Pounds Sterling Silver coin Gold-Plated, inset with 6 Rubies and white Enamel. Obverse: depicts Queen Elizabeth II facing right. Reverse: St George, the Patron Saint of England. The first references to St George were during The Crusades to the Holy Land in the 12th Century. He was recognised as the patron Saint of England during the reign of Edward III. The depiction of St George slaying the dragon is derived from the legend of the heroic recue of the princess of Lydda who was offered as a human sacrifice to the dragon.
