This 1 Pa'anga coin is struck in sterling (.925) silver to superb Proof quality. It weights 31.47 grams, measures a crown size 38.61 mm in diameter, with a mintage of 40,000 pieces. Gracing the reverse of the coin for Tonga and modelled in the Engraving Department of the Royal Mint is a splendid representation of the Queen Mother's crown, made specially for the Coronation in 1937. Created by Royal goldsmiths Garrard in traditional style, it is the only crown mounted in platinum and consists of four crosses pattee, four fleur-de-lis, four half-arches, a monde and cross. For the Coronation in 1937 the crown also housed the famous Lahore and Koh-i-Nor diamonds. The obverse features the Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Tonga.
