THE OFFICIAL ECUs "Prince Jean and Princess Josephine" Luxembourg

Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte have reigned over the little Dutch in the Ardennes since 12th November 1964. Both are descendants of famous ruling Houses. Grand Duke Jean is the eldest son of Grand Duchess Charlotte and Prince Felix of Bourbon-Parma. Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte is the eldest daughter of King Leopold III and Queen Astrid of Belgium. The 1972 Constitution makes the Grand duke the official Head of State with the power to veto legislation, appoint the government, and dissolve Parliament. In 1951 Luxembourg joined the European Coal and steel Community, the precursor of the European Union. Luxembourg, whose reigning Grand Duke and Duchess honoured on this ECU, is the seat of major European institutions and one of Europe's most important financial centres.
