Bank of Nauru, 2008 Five Pounds RAF "TORNADO & GLOSTER METEOR" Silver Proof.

The first Tornado British prototype flew on 30th October 1974. RAF Tornado GR. 1s saw action in the 1990-91 Gulf War, performing an invaluable role in delivering airfield denial weapons at night and at ultra-low level. RAF Tornados flew over 1,000 bombing sorties during the gulf war. On 7th February 1941, the Ministry placed an order for 12 prototypes and the Gloster Meteor first flew on 5th March 1943. The first MK 1 Meteors reached the RAF in July 1944 and were active against the V -1s, the MK , came into action during the later stage of the war.
