Hawker Hurricanes are now very rare aircraft and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight operates tow of them. They are in some ways the unsung heroes of WWII. Introduced into RAF squadrons in 1937, the before the Spitfire arrived, Hurricanes were the backbone of Britain's aerial defences in the early years of the war. At the start of the Battle of Britain the RAF could call on 32 squadrons of Hurricanes, compared to 19 of Spitfires.
