Hallmarked (London 1939) Sterling Silver Air Raid Precautions badge.
The badge is hallmarked sterling silver and weighs 9.36 grams and measures 38.5mm long by 26.2mm wide.
The first A.R.P badges were all made of hallmarked silver and issued from April 1937 until 1940 (although some badges are hallmarked for 1936). Thereafter, the same badge design was continued but these later badges were 'economy' issues made of white metal and production of these continued until 1943. Due to the large size of these A.R.P badges, they were also permitted to be used as cap badges after 1941.
