The Great War of WW1 1914 - 1918 British Campaign Medal set. Pip, Squeak and Wilfred are the affectionate names given to the three WWI Campaign Medal and Victory medal respectively. THE BRITISH WAR MEDAL, 1914 - 1920 known as Squeak, essentially the requirement was that a member of the fighting forces had to leave his native shore in any part of the British Empire while on service. Medal is made of silver and circular.
THE 1914-1915 STAR known as 'pip'. This bronze medal was authorized in 1918. It is very similar to the 1914 star but to a much wider range of recipients. Broadly speaking it was awarded to all who served in any theatre of war against Germany between 5 August 1914 and 31 December 1915. The reverse is plane with the recipients service number, rank and unit impressed on it. THE ALLIED VICTORY MEDAL, also known as 'Wilfred'. It was decided that each of the allies should each issue their own bronze victory medal with a similar design, similar equivalent wording and identical ribbon. The British medal was designed by W.McMillon. The front depicts a winged classical figure representing victory.
