1986 £1 Brilliant Uncirculated coin, representing Northern Ireland, in a Royal Mint descriptive Folder, UNC

£22.00

The Northern Ireland 1986 One Pound Coin. Minted in Nickel brass, with a Diameter of 22.5 mm. A flax plant, encircled by the Royal Diadem, appears on the reverse of the 1986 one pound coin representing Northern Ireland. The eminent silversmith, Leslie Durbin, whose commissions include the special hallmark for Her Majesty's Silver Jubilee, prepared four designs to appear on the reverse of the one pound coin from 1984 to 1987. The designs represent the four constituent parts of the United Kingdom. He has chosen a flax plant to represent Northern Ireland in 1986. Flax is the oldest textile known to man. Evidence of flax in different stages of working was unearthed during excavations of Bronze Age settlements dating from 8000 b.C. One of its uses at the time was for making fishing nets. GRADE: Brilliant Uncirculated in a Royal Mint descriptive colour folder.
