To the left is the white lion. This emblem was originally adopted by the Mortimer's, Earls of March, and was introduced as a royal symbol during the reign of Edward I. The Yale, heraldic symbol of Henry VII, is depicted to the right of the coin's design. This mystic animal has been portrayed in many variations over the centuries. Between the white lion and the Yale is a heraldic crown. The coin also bears the special inscription, CORONATION JUBILEE 1953-1978.
