The obverse: bears the effigy of Her Majesty The Queen, by Arnold Machin, O.B.E. of England; with the inscription "Elizabeth II New Zealand 1983" around the periphery. The reverse design, by Philip Nathan, F.R.S.B.S. of England, shows portraits of Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince and Princess of Wales facing right. The Prince of Wales' Badge of Ostrich Feathers is on the left of the coin, with a New Zealand fern frond on the right.
