This 1999 $1 Majestic Images coin is one of only 16 839 legal tender Proof coins struck by the Royal Australian Mint. The reverse of the coin features three effigies of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The first effigy, designed by Mary Gillick, appeared in 1953. In 1966 Arnold Machin created the second effigy. The third portrait appeared in 1985 and was the work of Raphael Maklouf. The obverse depicts the effigy by Ian Rank-Broadley.
