The coin in this case is a silver crown piece issued in Proof in commemoration of the Queen's Silver Jubilee, struck in sterling silver. The obverse of the coin of this newest independent nation in the Commonwealth depicts its first president, His Excellency, Mr. James R. Mancham.
The reverse shows the Orb, an important item of the British Coronation Regalia, symbolising the union of the Church and the State
Both these designs are the work of Michael Rizzello, President of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, who was responsible for designing the entire range of coinage that was introduced into circulation in the territory at the time of independence, June 28th 1976.
