Falkland Islands, 2017 Fifty Pence "Northern Rockhopper" Penguin, Coloured Cupro-Nickel Diamond Finish, Capsule UNC

£110.00

Extremely rare ERROR 50p coin the Northern Rockhopper, instead of depicting the Southern Rockhopper Penguin.
The production was stopped at 3,200 instead of the 7,500 intended, and collectors who had purchased this error coin was asked if they would like to return in exchange for the correct Southern Rockhopper penguin, so I wonder how many returned the error coin. Each coin will be issued with copy of Pobjoy Mint's apologetic letter, saying that this mistake has occurred and greater diligence will be paid in the future. Northern Rockhopper Penguin description: Previously classed as a single species, the Rockhopper penguin has now been split into a northern and southern species. Although both are similar in appearance, the distinctive yellowish plumes extending from the yellow line above the eye are significantly longer and denser in the northern Rockhopper penguin. The body is small but robust, with slate-grey upperparts and white underparts, the bill is short and reddish-brown and eyes are red. Juveniles can be identified by the lack of adult yellow markings.
