2000 UK, Silver PIEDFORT Proof FDC one pound. Rev: Dragon for wales, boxed & Certificate

£49.00

UK, 2000 Silver Proof PIEDFORT one pound. The Dragon which appears on the badge and flag of Wales is a potent expression of the strength, fire and spirit of the national character and its depiction on the reverse of the one pound coin embodies centuries of Welsh symbolism. Piedfort are coins which have been specially struck on thicker than normal blanks. As their name suggests they have close associations with France, where from the twelfth century they were apparently issued by the King as presentation pieces. In Britain the practice of striking pied forts is later and less frequent, but medieval and Tudor examples are known. This one pound coin, struck to the highest proof quality sterling 0.925 silver, weighs 19.00 grammes and measures 22.5 millimetres in diameter. Only 10,000 of these superb one pound coins will be struck for distribution. GRADE: Stunning, FDC as Issued with Certificate.
