The obverse carries Raphael Maklouf's elegant portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with the Latin abbreviations of the surrounding Royal Style and Titles standing for 'by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith'. The edge of the coin bears the Latin inscription DECUS ET TUTAMEN, which translates as 'an ornament and a safeguard'.
