Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II Coronation" 1953 - 1993. Minted in Sterling 0.925. Silver. Diameter: 22.5 mm. The coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953 was one of solemn pomp and pageantry. The service, conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, was televised worldwide, so that millions heard the young Queen Elizabeth take the Coronation Oath binding her to the service of the people of Britain and the Commonwealth. To celebrate the fortieth anniversary of this momentous occasion, the States of Alderney have authorised the minting of a limited number of silver Proof commemorative £1 coins. The reverse of this beautiful coin, designed and sculpted by John Savage, features the famous State Coach. The inscription reads "Coronation Anniversary. Alderney", with the denomination "£1". The obverse bears the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf with the inscription "Queen Elizabeth The Second. 1993.
