CELEBRATING 150 YEARS OF BIG BEN.
In September 1859, after 25 years of planning and construction, a new clock tower, clock mechanism, great bell and four quarter bells stared working together at the Palace of Westminster for the first time. Strictly speaking, the name Big Ben only applies to the great bell, though it quickly became synonymous with the clock tower itself. It has an extraordinary history.
